ADHD Parent Coaching & Support
I am an experienced Speech Pathologist with a deep passion for working with neurodivergent children. My personal experience in a neurodivergent household, as both a mother of three (two of whom are neurodivergent, with AudHD and ADHD) and having ADHD myself, has given me valuable insight into the challenges and joys of parenting in this space.
Parenting can be incredibly rewarding, but it’s also tough and often overwhelming. No matter how many books you read or courses you take, navigating the maze of strategies that best support your child, family, and household can feel like a minefield.
Due to the growing number of parents seeking speech therapy services to support their child(ren) with ADHD, MSP is now offering personalised 1:1 workshops. These sessions are designed to create tailored support strategies that meet the unique needs of your child and family, through a parent support and education model.
What this service offers:
-
One-on-one sessions with parents to explore neuroaffirming strategies for supporting your child at home, shifting away from traditional parenting models that may not align well with neurodivergent children.
-
A fresh perspective on understanding behaviours and viewing them through a different lens. By shifting your approach, you’ll gain new insights into how to manage, respond to, and react to behaviours in the home.
-
Recognising that parents are their child’s most powerful allies; the sessions emphasise the importance of creating a stable and understanding environment to effectively manage autism and ADHD-related behaviours.
-
This framework is client-centered, focusing on your child’s unique needs and strengths. It prioritises supporting neurodivergent experiences rather than imposing conventional, one-size-fits-all methods that may not be effective.
-
Since ADHD and Autism are spectrum conditions, individuals can experience a wide range of abilities; what might be a strength for one child, could be a challenge for another, highlighting the need for personalised, tailored support strategies.
What these sessions aim to do:
-
Support parents in unpacking specific behaviours, exploring the “why” behind them, and understanding that “all behaviour is a form of communication.”
-
Work with parents to teach supportive strategies, creating a nurturing and affirming environment where you understand your child’s actions, reactions, and emotional responses to different situations.
-
Help parents understand the root causes of behaviors so they can better guide their child in expressing their needs, emotions, and choices.
What we do:
-
Support parents in reshaping their understanding of their child’s behaviours and reactions to help strengthen their response strategies at home.
What we don’t do:
-
We do not teach “social skills” (e.g., masking, social stories, or social scripts) or implement interventions based on the social-deficit theory of neurodivergence.
By working together, we aim to provide parents with the tools they need to support their children effectively while fostering positive change at home.
